Super Smash Bros. Brawl was revealed yesterday for the Wii. It was revealed that Solid Snake will be a playable character.
At this point, the forum-Snake will express how much this sucks. Yes, even though his favorite video game character will be highlighted in one of the most ambitious game series, forum-Snake will most likely find something wrong with it. He can find something wrong with anything. Even Jesus.
Anyways, this is NOT a Sonic and Tails spoof. Check out the official movie.
Okay well I don't have much experience with Super Smash Bros.,and my stupid dial-up connection won't allow me to view the movie . So I don't really have a comment either way about this game. I'm assuming that Super Smash Bros. not to sound mean but this is the only way I can generalize so bear with me is like a kiddie version of Mortal Combat? Like I said don't take this as derrogatory, but I'm not familiar with the game so I had to catagorize based on my limited knowledge .
Okay well here's my order of systems to get and why:
Xbox 360: Well it's going to have KOTOR III from everything I gather and Halo 3 (the only FPS I like), and since Aaron has one me and John are planning on getting one for the connectibility to use instead of our Xboxes. Ironically enough it's mainly for the multiplayer aspect that I will be getting this system first. I have also heard that many games that would be solely on the PS3 such as some future Final Fantasies and the like will also be launched on this system, and from all of my observations indicate that this system will have the most powerful graphics overall so if it will be released on both PS3 and 360 I'll have the ability to research and get it on either system.
My second system really comes down to release dates, and will be determined whichever the Wii or PS3 hits shelves first and the availability of the hard ware. Price isn't going to be a huge deal because the 360 is $399.99, the PS3 is $499.99, and don't kill me if I'm wrong but I assume that the Wii is less than the 360 in price. I'm basing that on what Brandon Hatcher and Aaron have said over the last 6 months so yeah.
I want it to be noted that I will buy all three systems so do not construe this as bashing on platform over another, I don't do that anymore.
Smash Bros. is like sumo wrestling. You keep hitting your opponent to make his/her damage percentage go up. The higher the damage %, the farther he/she'll go the next time you hit him. The object is to KO your opponent by knocking him/her out of the stage.
Mortal Kombat is just a fighter. Nothing special about it. I wouldn't call Smash Bros. "kiddy", though. It has a "T" rating, and has some suggestive themes in it. And now that a character from an "M" rated game is in it....well, it won't really change anything, but there you go.
You seem to have a prejudice idea of "kiddy" towards all Nintendo games. If you haven't figured out that Nintendo isn't just for kids by now, I give up.
But this is the MGS thread. Let's have some more non-homoerotic images to edit for laughter's sake.
True well Mura would actually ban me then if I put more of the good stuff on there . Seriously, I didn't mean to offend you Mura, and I am truely sorry for angering you. I will not do that again, I let my mischevious side get the better of my judgement, and well I had a lapse of higher brain functions. I am very sorry for giving you severe loads of mental trauma as the would say in the Enterprise's sickbay.
Anyhoo, well Mitch I am not trying to sound prejudice toward Nintendo, but he only fighter games I have played consist of the "old school" Mortal Combat games on the SNES, and Tekken on the PSX so my knowledge is extremely limited. I generalized thinking that well it is a fighter game like that, but considering that while you probably have 'hard core' characters on the game; it still probably has 'soft core' characters such as Mario, Pickachu, and so forth. I'll admit that while it was probably an extremely generalized and stereotypical statement, you must remember that the only games I really play consist of RPG's with little deviation.
Well now that that is out of the way, as it stands I still know little about the MGS series, but a friend of mine (Matt Bennett) gave me a copy of MGS2: Substance for the Microsoft Xbox, and maybe I'll plug it in some time and see what I think. I actually need to play it since I've had it since about October of 2004, and still haven't spun it the system's optical drive.
Okay, after watching the long (15 minute) trailer for MGS4, I have to say my hatred for Raiden has eased off a bit.
To put it mildly, he completely kicks some major @$$ in the trailer. He takes out like 6 of the new Metal Gears in under two minutes using nothing but a couple of swords. Course, it's fairly obvious that they wanted to change him to be like Gray Fox since everyone loved Gray Fox but hated Raiden.
However, he does some fairly goofy looking moves in that trailer, which remind me that he's still Raiden. That and the high heel shoes, that is.
Oh well. If he isn't whiney and doesn't show off parts of himself like in MGS2, I won't mind him that much in this one.
In another news, according to the MGS4 Wiki, Snake won't die in MGS4. According to the Wiki, Kojima himself announced this. Whether or not this is hot gas or truth is still up to speculation, although I personally don't see the Snake committing suicide thing happening. He just isn't a suicide type of guy.

Snake, or somebody doesn't matter who, but could someone post a link to the trailer. The game sounds interresting.

ok, thanks Snake. I just watched it and it looks like a good game although I would like to know exactly what is going on. Is Snake fighting in some kinda war?

In Metal Gear Solid, you play as Solid Snake, who is tasked with infiltrating a base on Shadow Moses Island. He is briefed by Colonel Campbell and Naomi Hunter. During the process of getting injected with 'nanites' (little robotic things that monitor your health), Naomi injects Snake with FOXDIE (a retrovirus that targets specific people and simulates a heart attack in them as soon as the carrier gets near them). She has manually reprogrammed the virus to kill Snake as well, but put in a 'wildcard' variable, meaning he can get the virus at any point in time. She did this as revenge for killing her brother, Frank Jeager (Gray Fox), although she regrets it later on.
Anyways, a terrorist group known as FOXHOUND is stationed at Shadow Moses, demanding the remains of Big Boss (Snake's 'dad') to correct genetic problems in the Genome army (an army of genetically enhanced soldiers that are under the control of FOXHOUND). Big Boss was the ultimate soldier and his genes were used to enhance the soldiers, but it led to some defects.
Anyways, Solid Snake encounters Liquid Snake, who is the leader of FOXHOUND. They are both genetic twins, being that they were cloned from Big Boss. Liquid is threatening to launch a nuke if the US doesn't give him the remains. As Snake, you find out that Liquid really wants the remains because he thinks that he is 'inferior' on the genetic level to Snake, and wants to be corrected. He has control of Metal Gear REX, which is basically a gigantic walking tank with nuclear weapons. Anyways, you fight Liquid, destroy the Metal Gear, fight Liquid again, then he dies.
Along the way Snake meets Revolver Ocelot, who is with FOXHOUND. He is actually working for the President, George Sears, to 'guide' Liquid's decisions and get the data on Metal Gear. Through a series of events, Ocelot gets this data.
Snake also meets a guy named Hal Emmerich, who goes by 'Otacon'. He created Metal Gear REX, but helps Snake because he doesn't want the terrorists using it.
Long story short, FOXDIE activates in personnel all over the base when Snake meets them, killing them. It eventually takes its toll on Liquid as well, killing him in the final moments. All is well as Snake and Meryl (a woman you meet inside, the Colonel's 'niece') escape from the facility.
*MGS2 Spoilers*
A group called 'The Patriots', who are really in charge of the US government, decide to take George Sears out of the President's chair after his involvement in the Shadow Moses incident. Ocelot, Sears, and a number of other people go into hiding and begin to form 'The Sons of Liberty', a group who wishes to overthrow the Patriots. George Sears turns out to be Solidus Snake, the third clone of Big Boss. He has the perfect genetic balance, making him the 'perfect' clone (superior to Solid and Liquid).
Ocelot sells the information about Metal Gear on the black market, allowing people all over the world to build their own variations.
Several years pass, Meryl and Snake split ways. Snake forms an anti-Metal Gear group with Otacon known as 'Philanthropy', and they destroy hundreds of Metal Gears world-wide. They get information about a new type of Metal Gear on a Navy boat just outside of New York City, and Snake goes in to take it out. He meets Olga Gurlukovich, daughter of Sergei Gurlukovich, but that comes in a bit later.
Snake makes it down into the hold and finds Metal Gear RAY. As he's taking pictures of it, Revolver Ocelot and Sergei Gurlukovich appear and take control of the Metal Gear. However, Ocelot betrays Sergei and shoots both him and the Navy commander. Earlier on, a cypher (floating camera) took pictures of Snake. Ocelot sinks the tanker and sends those pictures of Snake out as propaganda, declaring Snake as a terrorist.
Shortly after the tanker goes down, Otacon and Snake steal the body of Liquid Snake and plant him at the location. When authorities recover the body, they think it's Solid Snake and declare him dead.
A few years pass and a facility called 'The Big Shell' is built to 'clean up the oil spilt from the tanker' that Ocelot sabotaged. In reality it's a cover for production of Arsenal Gear, a MASSIVE Metal Gear.
Anyways, since I don't want to go into this really, a terrorist group takes over the Big Shell and someone is sent in to stop them. That is Raiden, the guy who noone likes. Along the way he meets Snake and the terrorists, they find out about Arsenal Gear, things blow up. Ocelot turns out to be working for the Patriots and betrays Solidus, and you find out that Liquid lives on through his arm (Ocelot got his cut off by Gray Fox in MGS and had Liquid's arm grafted on in its place). In the end, Raiden fights Solidus, he finds out that the whole thing was staged by the Patriots to test the 'S3' AI, which is why they stuck Raiden in an almost exact copy of the Shadow Moses incident. Solidus dies, Raiden and Snake talk, time moves on.
This all leads up to MGS4 (MGS3 was a prequel that showed Big Boss). The S3 AI has been put into massive usage inside the Metal Gear 'Gekko', which is partially organic (legs) and partially machine (torso, top). The AI is EXTREMELY smart. 'Outer Heaven' has been established (this is why Snake had to kill Big Boss. BB wanted to make Outer Heaven as a place where soldiers ruled, which threatened the world) and is mass producing these Gears. Colonel Campbell and Otacon located Liquid Snake/Revolver Ocelot, revealing him to be in the middle east. Snake is sent in to stop him. However, due to Snake being a clone, he has increased aging and looks like a 60 year old by this point. On top of this, FOXDIE has started taking effect, and is slowly killing him (Naomi tells him he has 6 months to live in the long trailer).
In essence, the troops of Outer Heaven (mercenaries) have started a series of controlled battles with other mercenaries (Proxy battles, referred to in the trailer). As you can guess, the leader of Outer Heaven is Liquid Snake.
So that's why Snake is where he is. He needs to find and defeat Liquid to bring Outer Heaven down. However, to prevent the possibility of another similar incident, he needs to completely irradicate the genetic code of Big Boss, which is why he's about to commit suicide.

A little late on telling me that but I'll probably forget anyways, so all it good.

You know the story line of this game reminds me of something that I've either played or watched before. I'm trying to remember, but I swear I have this game somewhere that story wise is so similar, but I can't think of the title, but it's late at night and my mind isn't functioning well at the moment .
What amazes me is how much detail was went in to censor Raiden's genitalia.
Kojima literally has every angle covered.
The problem with MGS2's story is that it's too philosophical.
"You know, I think we should take a moment to have a half-hour psychoanalysis of a soldier and the ethics involved in war and politics....right here.....while I'm hiding under a table, over a radio (codec). I mean, I know that the enemy soldiers that are surrounding the table I'm under can't hear YOUR voice over the radio, but because of the magical fairy dust I've been snorting, they can't hear me yell at you for not telling me exactly what I want when I want it while they're standing 2 feet away. Also, let us delve deep into a bunch of cult films and worry about petty things such as when we first met, sweetie-pie. I mean, hey, it's not like I just killed a bunch of people."

...Wow. You just summed up Raiden's entire segment in a short paragraph.
Man, I wish they would have let you play as Snake through that...

Okay I know that this game isn't related, but in Xenogears (1998 Squaresoft) has a government of a country called Solaris that is really ran by a guy named Krelian. The only difference between that and Metal Gear is how that Xenogears has a huge religious thing going on in the shadow government of Solaris .
You know what I'd like to know about the upcoming MGS?
What kind of freaks will Snake have to fight in this one (if any)?
Metal Gear Solid had Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Psycho Mantis, Decoy Octopus, and Revolver Ocelot (although he's in every MGS game).
MGS2 had Fortune, Vamp, Fatman, and Raiden (okay, so he's not a freaky boss that you have to fight, but he's still freaky and the worst of them all).
MGS3 had The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Fury, The Sorrow, and The Boss......oh, and Volgin.
I'd like to see some info as to what we'll be seeing next. I'm not going to play it if it's all about "GO! GO! GO! SECURE THE HOSTAGES! SHOOT THE TERRORISTS! TAKE OUT THAT SNIPER! MAN DOWN! MAN DOWN! IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR THE COLONEL'S NAP! SOMEONE TUCK HIM IN!"
There are too many games like that. The MGS series is made to be realistic, but what gives the series its charm is the surrealness and probabilities of the unlikely occuring on the battlefield. Making it just another "intense" army shooter would decrease sales, believe me.
Well, if it's any consolation, Liquid is still alive through an arm. So it couldn't have become THAT realistic.
Not to mention Raiden flipping through the air like gravity is non-existant and slicing large metal mechs in two with a sword.
And Snake constantly smoking a cigarette, despite the fact that his body is already decaying.
And finally, the fact that Hideo Kojima is still writing the stories. I mean, if the dude can manage a bi-sexual colonel that shoots lightning and is also a sadist, I doubt he's gonna suddenly go completely realistic.

When you're underwater in MGS2, the bubbles get caught in the camera. In MGS3, the bees from The Pain get stuck in the camera lens as well.
When you get up close to an ally's face, their breath will fog the camera, you get the idea.
Now, as for bisexual vampires, and guys in latex running around with wigs on carrying rifles, grenade launchers and ammo in God knows where, yeah, it's unrealistic.
