Surprisingly, we haven't heard anything from Snake about his aging namesake.
In case you haven't heard, Solid Snake is getting old...literally. In the newest installment of the Metal Gear Solid series, Snake is much older (or at least he appears to be. It could be another one of Kojima's tricks....) and must therefore face problems of another nature. In the teaser trailer, it is made clear that he must inject himself every so often with medication (antidepressants, stimulants, Viagra, etc....) to keep from keeling over with coughing fits.
I'm sure Snake knows more about it than I do. He always has his ear to the ground when it comes to MGS.
These are some of the few screenshots they've released now.
And from what I've read, the game's name is "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots". People who haven't played the previous games won't get what the title means, but to us fans, it means that we're finally going to get answers to some difficult questions.
One more comment and I'll let Snake take over from here. I think that at some point, you get too old to have a mullet. Take it away, my reptillian friend.
Indeed, the mullet needs to take it's absence...I mean, he didn't have it in the original MGS...
But that aside, there isn't a whole lot of info on MGS4 yet. Snake has indeed aged, but judging from Otacon's lack of extreme aging, I'm guessing that it has something to do with A)Foxdie, or B)The fact that Snake is a clone. Either way, he has to jam a thing in his neck every so often to inject medicine...speculation says hes having a heart attack, but thats just speculation.
As for the cast, it seems that all of the main characters from the MGS series are making a come back. These include Raiden (in a new outfit, thank goodness), Meryl, Vamp (don't know how he survived this time), Ocelot, Liquid Snake, Snake (dur), Otacon, and a few others that I can't think of at the moment.
You were right Mitch, the name is Guns of the Patriots. Apparently the environment in this one is supposed to be dynamic, as opposed to the older pre-rendered areas (think RE). It seems that Metal Gears have gone into massive military production, only much smaller. These new gears resemble REX from MGS1, and are about a third of the size.
Snake also has a new 'eyepatch'. In reality, this is a vision system called the 'Solid Eye' System. It apparently distinguishes enemy targets for Snake, and works somewhat like infra red.
Anyways, more info will come in the future.

Of course Vamp is back! He's a vampire....he can't die. I'll bet Otacon is pissed about that.
But anyways, thanks for replying. You're a big help with upcoming games.
And why is Meryll back? I thought that she was suppoed to die in the original and that extra Snake Tale in MGS2: Substance was just "what could have been if she lived."
You should when you actually get the chance. The series has a very engrossing (and just plain grossing when Raiden gets naked, peed on, and crotch-grabbed) storyline.
Oh, Snake, another thing. I noticed in one of the artist's drawings that Raiden is holding a baby. I immediately thought that it was Olga's baby that he was supposed to protect, but the baby is really young and being held in his arms, looking about 6 months old, and therefore not the right age. Olga's baby was 2 during the Big Shell incident. Maybe it's HIS baby....and that means he's not gay!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe it was artificial insemination..........What do you think, Snake?
It's quite possible that Raiden has a child. I mean, he did find out that Rosemary was real in the end...
Anyways, I personally think it's Olga's kid. I mean, looking at the artwork, Snake seems the be the only one who's really aged. It was probably just the artwork, or they screwed up and changed the babies age. Any way it goes, I'm kinda doubting that Raiden is gay.
EDIT: What the crap? I posted something about Meryl last night, but I guess it didn't go through. Meryl wasn't supposed to die I don't believe (considering she's back), therefore her and Snake must have just parted ways. I also think Naomi will be making a return in this one, but I'm not positive on that.

If you'll remember in MGS, Snake was the carrier of Foxdie, or rather a catalyst. When he neared those who had it, Foxdie was activated and killed them (think Decoy Octopus). Naomi also says in the end that she injected Snake with Foxdie, as revenge for him killing Frank Yeager. She begins to regret it, but the fact still remains that he has it.
Metal Gear Solid is about an ex-marine called Solid Snake, who is working for the government to stop a terrorist group called FoxHound from launching a nuke. The terrorists have taken control of a base in Alaska, and demand stuff, or else they'll nuke something. FoxHound is made up of some strange commandos, all with unique abilites.
If you have a GameCube, then pick up Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. It's a remake of the original MGS, and stays true to the original.

Army, Marines, whatever. They both have guns and fight on foot (and YES, I know what the differences are between them. I was in freaking ROTC for three years).

I wasn't questioning your experience in military statistics and whatnot. I just knew you never played the original Metal Gear. Snake starts out in fast rope descent from an Army chopper.
You should get the ROM sometime. It is a bit hard though.
or he could have been a marine jumping from an army helicopter granted of course this is coming from the guy who has no clue about the game so i should probably get back handed right now

At the beginning of MGS2, Otacon says "You aren't in the Army anymore" or something like that to Snake. It was over the codec, and granted, no one listens to those, so it's easy to miss.
In MGS2, he says "Semper Fi" to Raiden when he's disguised as Pliskin. Semper Fi is the Marines catch phrase. Why would he say Semper Fi if he wasn't a Marine? And no, he didn't say it because he was disguised as Pliskin...those teams had no affiliation with the Marines whatsoever.
And I know you weren't trying to say I didn't know the difference, Mitch. Sorry if I came off a little rude there.
EDIT: Here ya go Mitch, more info on Snake and FOXDIE.
"Before the Shadow Moses incident Solid Snake was injected with FOXDIE along with Nanomachines by FOXHOUND medical expert, Dr. Naomi Hunter. Snake was supposed to be a vector for the drug. The virus was supposed to kill Solid Snake, Arms Tech President Kenneth Baker, FOXHOUND members Decoy Octopus, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis and Liquid Snake. It managed to kill Baker, Decoy and Liquid Snake. So why didn't FOXDIE kill Mantis, Wolf, and Raven. I'll tell you. Snake never got close to Vulcan Raven until right before he died, meaning FOXDIE couldn't affect him. Psycho Mantis wore his mask, so FOXDIE couldn't affect him, and the tranquillizers Wolf took constantly kept it from affecting her.
Now what about Ocelot? Well things are a bit fuzzy concerning him. On one hand, Solidus gave him the FOXDIE vaccine before he went into Shadow Moses. However, Ocelot was also working with the Patriot's at the time, meaning it's very likely he wasn't a target at all."
Wait...I'm almost POSITIVE he was in the Marines.
Yes, but he also said "Who Dares Wins", which is the slogan of the British Air Force. I can guarantee you Snake was never in the British Air Force. He probably just quoted them along with the Marines. I'm still going to say he was in the Army and not the Marines. Watch the cutscene where Snake (Pliskin), Raiden, and Stillman are talking about defusing bombs again, and DON'T SKIP IT no matter how boring it gets.
Oh, and thanks for the extra information regarding FOXDIE. Heh....maybe Ocelot wasn't affected because the virus was all in his hand and when it got cut off, he didn't have it anymore. I dunno.....
Wait....here's a question that doesn't have to do with MGS4, but it's been bothering me forever......
Okay, Ocelot gets his hand cut off in MGS1, and after that, he removes Liquid's left arm and puts it on his.....why did he do that? Why didn't he just take the hand? Did he actually need the whole arm or something? I mean, he had to remove his own arm to get Liquid's on there! What do you think?
how much would the gamecube re-release of mg cost, has it been out for a while, and what kind of game play would it feature. are we talking fps, tps, re like, etc?

It's been out a while, and you could probably get it for $20 to $30. MGS started the 'stealth' genre of gaming, so if you've played something like Splinter Cell, it's LOOSELY like that (although MGS kicks the ever loving snot out of Splinter Cell in terms of gameplay and story). MGS also features a first person view, although you can only aim while in it. More like RE4 than anything else, with stealth elements (pressing up against walls, hiding under stuff, sneaking up on people, etc).

I also factored in the fact that Kojima had enough decency to cover every angle so that (unless you use cheat codes) there's no way you'll have to see Raiden's <Richard>.
Well luckily for me i don't own a gameshark for the gamecube so i won't get to little raiden. now i have never understood why that game companies want to have nude scenes of the male characters

Don't worry...Raiden isn't even in The Twin Snakes (the one for Gamecube), so you don't have to worry about it anyway. The most TTS has is Meryl in panties and Snake shirtless.

personally, i don't have a problem with nude video game chicks, but i don't really enjoy seeing video game guys in the buff however, i'm glad that you mentioned that snake

Seems like that brought the discussion to a screeching halt.
Naomi IS in this one (shes in the official concept art). So that makes Meryl, Otacon, Raiden, Ocelot/Liquid, Vamp, Naomi, and a couple of other people that Im not sure about.

Its been a really long time since I've played any of these games so I need to go back over them again and actually remember the story and gameplay so I could actually participate in a disscussion about Metal Gear Solid
