I'd prefer it to be that way, Mitch... And I wasn't kidding, I think theres a game with a name something like that on the commodore64... I think I saw something like that when I was looking for an empty board at GF...
Oh...weird.....either way, let's try to keep comments like "Let's put cheese in a blender and throw it at the hungry ethiopians" in the Random Stuff section.
Ugh...is it really up to me to defend FF7? Fine...
The story is mediocre...."Group of heroes (main character is a soldier with a sword....a big one at that) join together to fight an evil that threatens the planet." And some of the characters suck (Cait Sith, point and case.....).
The story is definately cliche by our standards. But think of it at the time, did you REALLY see that many games out there in a futuristic environment, where people lugged gigantic swords while shooting and chucking grenades at each other? A little known fact, FF7's story is highly screwed up in the US version because of translation issues. Plus, the plot went through so many revisions that they left some very confusing material in the game (on Disc 3, Aeris tells Cloud that they have to stop Sephiroth from activating Meteor...which had already been done a good while back). Theres really alot more to the story than the game shows.
And what's the deal with Sephiroth? People think that he's the most awesome villain ever....well, he's not. Aside from having a cool sword and awesome theme music, he ain't got much going for him. He spends half the game running from you, and the other half floating around a friggin' crater.
Ok, heres the deal. The guy your chasing throughout the game is NOT Sephiroth. Its Jenova, taking on Sephiroths form. As you clearly see in the Northern Crater, Sephiroth is encased in a chunk of ice or something, and his body is cut in two. I do think that Sephiroth is overhyped, but once again, theres alot more to it than meets the eye. Sephiroth and Jenova are linked, in a way. Jenova's cells were injected into Sephiroth while he was still in the womb, so he was essentially born infused with Jenova. So, essentially, HES the one who is screwing with everything throughout the game, not just Jenova. His plan is to crash Meteor in the Earth where the Lifestream will all flow to a central point. With that, he could achieve an ultimate power and become a supernatural entity. Course....he DOES get slashed and chucked off a catwalk by a level 1 grunt.....
And don't even get me started on Aeris! (I know her name was changed to Aerith, but Square-Enix did that, and I hate them.) I was looking at some other forums and people were talking about how they were actually in tears over her death.....OMG WHAT LOSERS!!!!!!!! I never really liked her that much anyway. She isn't alive long enough for you to get attatched to her. If Cloud was smart, he would have hooked up with Tifa in the first place and never even talked to Aeris! I mean, who would you rather be with? The weak girl who dies, or the butt-kicking girl who actually helps you and has big....accomodations? Hmmm.....which will I choose?
Heres the deal with Aeris. Originally, Aeris was the ONLY girl in the plot. She was Clouds love interest, and did not die. However, Nomura's character design of Aeris was rejected, so he created a new girl, who he used that design with. That girl was Tifa. So, in reality, Tifa is what Aeris was supposed to be. The reason Aeris fell in love with Cloud so quickly (and vice versa) was because Cloud was living Zack's past. Zack and Aeris had dated 5 years before Zack died. Once Zack died, Cloud believed that HE was Zack, and took on his memories of being a SOLDIER, and alot of his personality. Aeris sees alot of Zack in Cloud, and Cloud (thinking hes Zack) just naturally likes Aeris.
Of course, I couldnt agree with you more, her death scene was WAAY too early for a person to really get attached to her.

Hey, I didn't say you HAD to defend FF7, but if you just wanted to, then that's cool. I was just trying to get my points across, and you seemed to agree on the majority of them.
personally i enjoyed ff7, and i my opinion it is one of the best in the saga, but my personal favorite even though i never got all of the way through it is ff8. snake has some really good points.

FF8 is the one FF I haven't played so far... Well, that and FFX-2... And FFXI, but I don't count that one since it's an MMO... And like I said, I too like FF7, it had some cool characters in there. I need to play FF8 and FFX-2 sometime... Even if they do get some bad reviews...
i want to say that i saw a copy of ff8 at hastings in maryville. it probably wouldn't be too hard to get a copy of ff8. i'd say that most game stores that sell new and used games would probably have a copy, or would be able to get ahold of a copy fairly easy.
