now we all have heard about the forerunners in halo, halo 2, and if you have read the books then there too, but have you ever wondered who the forerunners are?
well my theory, and the theory of my friend aaron, we discussed this a few weeks ago when it was just me and him playing halo 2 on his 360, that the forerunners are actually humans
reason one for this thought:
in halo 1 on the library level the monitor constantly calls a reclaimer, and it makes you think that possibly the human race is connected to the forerunners, why would the monitor recognize the humans when they didn't know anything about halo?
reason two for this thought:
at the end of halo 2 when the forerunner ship carrying the prophet of (i can't remember) and the master chief exits slipstream in earth orbit at what i think is the location of the ark that the monitor briefly talks about with cmdr miranda keyes, sgt johnson, and the arbiter is on earth.
anyhoo would like your views and input, but let's keep this friendly, all views will be welcome

Actually, I always believed that the Forerunners were human. I feel somewhat out of place here because I haven't read the books. I'm just going by what I played in Halo (1 & 2).
Strangely enough, though, today, I've been playing both Halos, both on Heroic mode. I'm making headway, though I'm definetely not up to par with Legendary yet.
you know what i find funny? well as we all know the covenant are hell bent on destroying mankind, and just wait till they find out that the humans are their precious foreruners; what are they gonna do then?
personally i wouldn't mind seeing the master chief and the arbiter team up in halo 3 i just hope that they don't make it suck because of wanting to release when the ps3 comes out to keep sony's sales down

That would be cool. I do sort of like the Arbiter. He's no Master Chief, but he's probably the best the Covenant has to offer. And he does get the job done....probably their equivalent to the Master Chief.
Luckily for Microsoft, the PS3 has been delayed again.
I've always thought the forerunners are humans. I mean, all the evidence points to it (IE: Guilty Spark refers to humans as 'reclaimers', stating that MC is one and 'another before him' (an unarmored human) failed to reclaim the index). That, and the fact that Cortana can translate some of the forerunner data, whereas she has no previous encoding to allow her to read that type of language.
I read the books a good while back, but I can't exactly remember a ton (except that there was a ton of explosions).
But yeah. My guess is that in Halo 3, the now-exiled Elites will team up with the humans and own the Covenant. I'm also guessing that the forerunner are gonna end up as humans, since that's apparently where the evidence is leading.

i could actually see that happening because by the end of halo 2 the holy city of high charity is infested with the flood, the covenant is in a state of civil war, and the humans still on delta halo are working with the humans so i could see in halo 3 the hunters, elites, and the grunts on the human's side going against the rest of the covenant in a final showdown at earth and yet another one of them blasted rings
to reply to your comment about cortana, i think that she would have been able to interpret the data even if the forerunner weren't/aren't human because if you break it down all computers transmit in ones and zeros so she could probably interpret the data as binary or a similar mathematical system that all intelligent life tends to adhere to
