Underrated games?

i think that the grandia series is underrated. i've played grandia and grandia 2, and i think that they are great games. their graphics were the norm for the day they were made in, but the games had excellent stories. i wish that some of these titles would get some more recognition because people are missing out on some really great games.

Off hand, I can't think of any underrated games, but I know of one game that is totally OVERRATED. And that is Final Fantasy 7.

The story is mediocre...."Group of heroes (main character is a soldier with a sword....a big one at that) join together to fight an evil that threatens the planet." And some of the characters suck (Cait Sith, point and case.....).

And what's the deal with Sephiroth? People think that he's the most awesome villain ever....well, he's not. Aside from having a cool sword and awesome theme music, he ain't got much going for him. He spends half the game running from you, and the other half floating around a friggin' crater.

And don't even get me started on Aeris! (I know her name was changed to Aerith, but Square-Enix did that, and I hate them.) I was looking at some other forums and people were talking about how they were actually in tears over her death.....OMG WHAT LOSERS!!!!!!!! I never really liked her that much anyway. She isn't alive long enough for you to get attatched to her. If Cloud was smart, he would have hooked up with Tifa in the first place and never even talked to Aeris! I mean, who would you rather be with? The weak girl who dies, or the butt-kicking girl who actually helps you and has big....accomodations? Hmmm.....which will I choose?

in some ways ff7 is overrated, but overall it is a good game. now you all want to see an overrated game then plug up your xbox and play halo and halo2. some of my friends are so insane about those games that i think they (they implies to several guy friens of mine none of which are on this forum) have fantasies over the master chief and the covenant elites. i personally don't see the insanity of halo, i mean it is a fun game, but i don't fantisize over the main character like some of my friends do.

The reason Halo is so popular? I'll tell you. Look at who made it.......no, not just Bungie. Microsoft. Halo is one of the Microsoft corporation's staples. Microsoft has the money to pay the employees of EB and Gamestop to wear Halo 2 shirts and show their in-game videos 24/7. They make action figures, books, and millions of copies of the Halo games to sell to the people who really can't find any better games for their Xbox.

I bought my Xbox for Conker: Live and Reloaded....well, also for Fable, but we all know how THAT turned out. I got Halo so I could have a game to play for the Xbox, because other than KOTOR and Fable, the Halo games is all I have for the Xbox....mainly cause everything else for the Xbox either.......

1.) Sucks.

2.) Is on any other system or PC.

good point mitch. i'm beginning to think that the gaming industry is starting too run out of ideas to make games so they go out to any random crack head (people like that don't need to stick their head in people's butts) and hire him to make a crappy game.

i think that most all movies, games, and books are somewhat overrated nowadays. i mean look at the previous star wars movies episode 1 and 2. and the last two final fantasy games 10-2 and 11, and some of the books (don't know of any titles at the moment, i only read stuff that i think is cool like battlefield earth.) i really wouldn't mind if a game or something came along one day that wasn't so overrated that it was a major letdown like fable or something.

Chrono Trigger.

Go ahead and try to kill me if you want, I ain't dissing on the game, it's a great game, but I view it as I view FF7: awesome, overhyped, and loved by to many annoying fanboys. God, how I loathe fanboys...

I also think the GTA games are overrated... And yea, Sephy is an overrated character... If you want a good FF villain... Go with Kefka... He's just friggin evil man!

A lot of the games that I consider overrated are games that I actually like, with a few acceptions...

Anyways, back to underrated games... Maybe I'll post some more later...

No one really saw it coming with Fable....it being as short and lacking in real gameplay that is.

They only showed the good parts in the previews for it, and not the lame stuff, like it only being 12 hours long, and not having enough money to hardly buy anything, and getting old really, really fast....I guess you just can't trust in an Xbox game's awesomeness until you play it.

EXCEPT FOR CONKER!!!! It being a ground up remake of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Needless to say, when Conker: Live and Reloaded comes out in a couple of weeks, I will be playing it for many many happy years to come. I'm STILL playing Bad Fur Day's multiplayer, and Live and Reloaded is focusing more on the same stuff that made Conker's multiplayer so great.

yeah i agree kefka was way more evil than sephy. i actually agree. chrono trigger is an extremly overrated game. even though it is an awesome game.

well the xbox is a powerful system, and far better of a system than the ps2 or gamecube as in raw power, but it doesn't always carry the games that i like. the xbox mainly deals in first person shooters which i like fps games, but i would rather play an rpg anyday. thats why i like the ps2. they only games i have personally played on gamecube that i like is skies of arcadia and tales of symphonia. but remember that i haven't played my g-cube much so i'm kinda out on the loop on that system.

How is Chrono Trigger overrated? There was hardly any publicity for it when it came out, and hardly anyone knows about it now, since it come out in 1995 on the Super Nintendo.

I ain't gonna kill you for your opinions, but look at the facts. It has an original story, it takes place in different time periods, and it's music is done by Yasunori Mitsuda, and it's artwork is done by Akira Toriyama!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't go wrong with all that, including the superstar team that made the game!

Chrono Trigger is the best game ever made by Squaresoft, or any RPG company for that matter....and how dare you take it's name in vain!

I've seen that exact message many times... THAT is why it is overrated, everything else in your post hold no value against my statement. The game can be great and even be my favorite game of all time, but that wouldn't mean it's not overrated.

Look, the point is, aside from the people at the recently decisted Chrono Trigger Remake Project, hardly anyone knows about the game, so it couldn't be THAT overrated. And even if it was overrated, what would you base your judgement on? We've talked about games being underrated and overrated, but what games are....well..."rated"?

Right... And I never heard of that remake project untill recently... And how much ads were gave out once it was made and being put out has nothing to do with if it's overrated or not... That's just being advertised an assload of time... Underratted and overrated are two things that are quite differnt, that is obvious, but I mean they are different than just being complete opposites. Underrated would mean that it doesn't get enough props that it deserves, is often overlooked, or just has way to much hate for no reason... or something like that... Overrated is when something is constantly being ranted about being the bets thing of all time by tons of people or something along those lines.

well, the most overrated game series in my opinion is mario. now i know that what i am about to say could be considered blasphemy, but what is so great about a silly little game that the only point is to eat mushrooms, and shoot fireballs at the enemies.

You're right Tsercaes......and until the Chrono Trigger Remake Project came along, I thought that KK, Mura, and I were the only ones who ever cared about Chrono Trigger, so if anything, Chrono Trigger is underrated.

Yeah, Mario hasn't had a good game since Mario 64 DS.....other than that it's been Mario Golf, or Mario Party games up the wazoo.
